HeidelbergCement has been developing the concept of Biodiversity Management Plans (BMP) since 2009 for all its mineral extraction sites in Europe that are located in or near Natura 2000 areas. A BMP includes a site mapping and the evaluation of the various habitat types of the quarry. Management measures are then developed and implemented for the future promotion and preservation of focus habitats and their related living species, while taking into consideration the requirements of mineral and raw material extraction. Thanks to these BMPs the effect of our actions on plant and animal species have become measurable and predictable.
